Shift Differential

A payment made to an employee who has traveled to a work location with an overnight stay to compensate them for the inconvenience of the out of town work schedule.
The shift differential is typically 10% of the staff member's regular hourly rate.
Shift differential pay must be included in the regular rate of pay for the calculation of overtime pay for weekly-paid (non-exempt) staff members. The staff member is paid one and one-half times the regular rate of pay for all hours worked over forty hours in the workweek.
Any benefit time and/or travel time accumulated during the week a shift differential occurs will not be paid in a shift differential rate but at the employee’s normal pay rate.
Employees must submit their shift differential on their timecard by entering their job # and placing the letters SD after the job # that the shift differential occurred. (example:)

All timecards without the SD designating shift deferential will be paid at the employee’s normal rate. No exceptions will be made.
Shift differential is only paid to non-exempt positions.
Employees in exempt positions (positions that are not eligible for overtime compensation) are not eligible for shift differential.
